We always get excited when figs come in season, which generally lasts from August through October. Not only do figs taste delicious and have many health benefits, they're also a great addition to many recipes: we love blending them in smoothies, adding them to oatmeal, eating them as a snack, or adding to our homemade granola and protein bars.
Not sure about anyone else, but when chocolate is concerned, we're sold, immediately. That is why we loveeee this recipe. Combined with coconut and sea salt, these Dark Chocolate Covered Figs are the perfect late summer treat. They're also super easy to make, making these a great idea to bring to summer parties and get togethers. With just the right amount of sweet, combined with the decadent dark chocolate, they're simply irresistible!
Prep Time: 15 mins Makes: Up to 15
1. Choose figs that are ripe yet still firm. Wash and cut the figs longways into thin slices.
2. To make the chocolate, mix 2 tbsp of cacao with 1-2 tbsp maple syrup, depending on how sweet you prefer. Melt the coconut oil and mix with the cacao and maple until smooth and combined.
3. Dip the figs in the chocolate mix and carefully lay on a tray, then place in the fridge for 15-20 minutes until the chocolate becomes firm. Once firm, take out and decorate. We added coconut and chopped goji berries, but you can get creative with toppings. Some suggestions include almond butter, chia seeds, or hemp seeds.
4. When not serving, keep stored in fridge.
Note: you can melt your favorite vegan chocolate chips for this recipe if desired.
